  • Cheers, Buddy Cup!

    Budweiser Brazil introduces the Buddy Cup, a new way to friend people on Facebook, by first socializing with them over drinks in real life.

    So, how does it work? Before the pour, users have to scan the QR code on the bottom of the high-tech cup with their smartphones, to pair the Buddy Cup to their Facebook profile.

    Then, when two people drinking in the bar tap their Buddy Cups together in a toasting motion, a red LED light at the top of the cup will activate indicating that the information exchange is happening.

    At this point, the custom smartphone application will automatically post on each person’s Facebook wall stating “I just became friends with ‘Person’s Name’. Drinking with the Buddy Cup at ‘Person’s Location’.” According to the promotional video, the toasting action authorizes a friend connection on Facebook, thus eliminating the need to connect on the social network after leaving the bar, party or event.
